california in trouble

So our nation is in economic crisis, and California is in even worse shape. We have spent more money than we have had for too long, and now it's time to fix the problem. So, after 90+ days without a state budget, we finally have a budget. It's not pretty though. Things are really bad here! Thank goodness we have a budget though. If we didn't get a budget, Many, many teachers would have been given pink slips- including my husband. The way the state wrote the budget, teachers are actually able to keep their jobs in my district. We just found out today that there won't be any layoffs for teachers this year. I am so thankful and relieved! I think for that, I am willing to put up with no AC controls, no fridge in my room, and fewer supplies. Last year, my school ALONE got rid of over 6 teachers.

Had my district done away with class-size reduction, they would have gotten rid of 12 teachers- and they would have had to go 5 years up the seniority scale- that could have been me! I've only been at my district 3 years, and they have gotten rid of most of the people hired after me. This is scary. These times are scary! I am finding myself holding more and more to my faith these days. As we think about starting a family sometime in the future, I wonder if we can. It sounds like this economic thing is going to last for at least 2 more years. The third year could be the worst for cuts. It would be nice to see some things get better soon.

That is so scary... Scary to be just buying a house and starting to plan a family at this time. Faith is so important!
