This evening I got home rather early- 6pm. I was so excited to be home before Aaron for once. I headed out back to feed the dogs and clean out their pool. The whole time I was trying to clean out the pool (which requires scrubbing and elbow grease), Charley was sitting in it! His face was in my face. He was dying for me to pet him. It was hilarious and rather irritating all at once. I tried to throw his ball a few times to get him out, but he would just come right back in.
That's when I noticed that he was bleeding. His front paw was covered in blood and was leaking all over the place. Luckily Aaron came home about that time and was able to assess the damage. Aaron discovered that it looked like Charley had lost a claw (there's NO telling how with that dog!). We called the vet, who wouldn't tell us anything over the phone, then we called my dad. He suggested stopping the bleeding with gauze. Aaron was already on it. This was our first attempt with cotton balls, thin gauze, and a sock. It failed quickly.
So after a quick trip to the store, I bought more gauze and tape. Charley was set.
The bleeding stopped, and Charley had the bandage off in no time. All is well now. It's a good thing Aaron got his safety and first aid license last week, huh?
