Volkslauf 2008

Aaron and me after the race

My running friends
Our team for the race. we actually ended up splitting up- the three of us on the left finished together, and the three on the right ran together.

We survived Volkslauf! The course is a 6.2 mile run with obstacles and mud, mud, mud! Counting all the hurdles, slides, tunnels, pits, berms, ladders, swings, rope climbs and low crawls found on the course, there are well over 75 obstacles in all for the 10K course. Add to that several million gallons of water and mud on the course, and this isn’t just any mud run. It was so cold this morning when we got there- in the 40's. I was a little worried about running in mud and water with it being so cold. I was only wearing a tank top and capri's. Luckily, by the time we got to run, it was a little warmer- maybe in the 60's.

I am SOO glad Aaron was running with me. He is an animal! He would run up mud hills, turn around, and pull me up! I am so happy to have a husband who would do this with me, and who would wait for me! He's great! We were able to run the entire way, and I was surprised at how great I felt. Until the last 1/2 mile. At that point it's one obstacle after and another. Each obstacle required such strength and energy- something I was lacking at the end. I was able to complete every obstacle except one, which I attempted and then fell into the water.

We had a blast! It was so fun to be able to do this with Aaron. I didn't even mind the mud once I got in.. well, I still got a little irritated when people would come bounding in and splash mud all over me. What can I say, I'm still and girly girl at heart! I'd never been so happy to have been fed, home, showered, and asleep once it was all over.
