Skinny Rules #4,5,6- week 2

Okay, so I survived the first week, and I actually got the hang of the first three rules after a few days. I am probably the only person to START a weight loss diet and GAIN weight! haha! Not too worried about that. I hardly got to workout this week, and my weight gain was only 1.5 lbs, very small compared to what it usually is. I have already taken off a lb of it!

I am a little irritated that I have to pee like an eight month pregnant woman with all the water I'm drinking! I will say going to bed hungry is STILL a struggle. It is easier, but not totally easy.I am surprised that even when I go to bed hungry, I don't wake up hungry! I wish my kitchen wasn't attached to my family room. And Aaron eating blueberry pie with ice cream at 10pm doesn't help me either! I mean, isn't that a form of spousal abuse?!

So are you ready for three new rules this week?

Rule #4 Slash your intake of refined flours and grains.
When I read this one I thought, "piece of cake"! (mmm! Cakes sounds really good right now!) I don't eat pasta anymore and if we do, it is whole wheat pasta- which Bob says is okay. Since I switched my bread to the cardboard stuff Ezekiel bread Bob recommended, I am fine. Bob says look for labels that say "whole-grain wheat flour" or "sprouted whole wheat". Then I started looking at the labels of the foods in my pantry that I eat regularly. First, the pretzels- start with enriched flour- yikes! Can't eat that one anymore. Next are the animal crackers (I was hopeful, I mean, they are low in calories right?), the first ingredient again is enriched four. I am in trouble! I still haven't figured out a substitute for my pretzels- my go to before lunch when I'm starving snack. Maybe I will drink some more water?? I think in the afternoons, I may eat a piece of Ezekiel bread- for now ( I know there's another rule coming that will put a stop to that one).

Rule #5 Eat 30 to 50 grams of fiber a day!
Honesty I don't look at my fiber intake so I have so idea how much this really is. I think I may be okay with this one. My lunch every day is  big portion of roasted veggies- which I have now added edamame to for the protein. Veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, squash, and carrots all have good amounts of fiber! Plus I eat those strawberries every morning, which are 18 grams of fiber! That's half of what he's recommending. Still, I am going to keep track this week to see if I am actually getting in all the fiber I need.
Here is a link to a site that gives you a list of top fiber foods if you need some help.  http://www.todaysdietitian.com/newarchives/063008p28.shtml

Rule #6 Eat apples and berries every single day.
I already have the berries down with my morning breakfast,. Plus I am adding a fruit smoothie with berries to the diet plan after this week instead of my morning coffee. So now I need to add an apple to my diet. I love when the rule calls for ADDING foods instead of taking them away. I may add that apple in the afternoons instead of my grainy now forbidden snack. Bob mentions a study of three groups of people. The people who ate an apple 15 minutes before a meal ate less and lost 15% more weight than the other two groups. Make sure your apple is an apple and not applesauce or apple juice.

Well, Are you still with me? This is going to be a crazy week with the end of the year and all! I am excited to  add these three new rules! Who's with me?

Way to go you! Keep us posted on your progress! We've been trying to eat a salad and fruit at two meals a day on top of eating less bread and lots of water. Dear Self, This is a forever thing. Love, me
