I can not believe Madeline is three weeks old! I really wonder where the week has gone! We have had some tough days this past week, but thankfully they are mixed with good days too. Yesterday, we started Madeline on the bottle one time a day. The lactation consultant said not to start her until 4 weeks, but for MY sanity, we started her at 3 weeks. There have been two times this past week that I have left for a half an hour and she has woken up screaming and there was nothing her dad could do to console her. This would result in me crying and feeling like a horrible mother, and Aaron feeling helpless and useless.
So, break out the bottle! We tried last night while I was home, and tadaaa! It was amazing! She downed 3.5 oz in no time, and she was happy. I didn't know what to do with myself since I didn't have to spend the next hour feeding her! I don't think Madeline knew what to do with herself either! We went on a walk instead. It was nice. I am so thankful for this invention! Now, I can leave her for an hour and not worry the whole time, and Aaron can feel like he is being useful too. We are going to continue to give her one bottle a day so she will be able to take it when I go back to work in the fall.
The only problem was that the flow was too fast. This is a great bottle by Nuby too. The nipple is the closest to a mother's that I've seen. It says it's slow flow, but not slow enough for us. Is there a better nipple you've found?? I am going to buy more bottles tomorrow. Did I mention that last week she gained 10 oz! The dress we brought her home from the hospital in three weeks ago- is so small on her now. I cried when I put it on her this morning.
