Down and Out

We have had a week! I feel like I was initiated into parenthood this week!

Monday night we volunteered to keep my adorable 3 1/2 month old niece Ava for the night because both her parents had the stomach flu (which Ava had already had over the weekend). How difficult could it be? I mean, I've had a 3 1/2 month old before... one night...

Well, let me just say two babies is WAY different than one baby! And I forgot that at that age, you can't just put them down. I think I lost weight just because I couldn't snack all night. I am used to our routine with Madeline- and by that I mean- she is in bed by 7:30 and we have the rest of the night to ourselves. But that doesn't happen with a newborn....

Anyway, Ava was a great baby, but it reminded me how EASY we have it with Madeline. And it was a miracle I was only 3 minutes late to work- heck, it's a miracle I made it out the door at all with TWO! Mornings are going to be tricky. So, I praise you mommies of two or more children! I am not sure I am ready for that... ever....

Wednesday, Aaron stayed home with Madeline because her sitter got the stomach flu. First my niece, then my brother and sister-in-law, now the sitter. I am telling you, I had been afraid of this thing. It was vicious. It was bad. And it was highly contagious!

Then it happened! Madeline got it Wednesday night! I freaked out! I hadn't read in my parenting book what to do with a puking 21 month old! In fact, I don't think I'd see this information anywhere! Luckily, her father remained calm. I will tell you, in case you are ever in this situation- We put her in the pack-n-play in our room with layers of towels under her, a bowl to throw up in, and a pile of ALL her pjs on the floor. I would have left her in her diaper, but it was too cold. So we changed her pjs about 5 times. We were prepared. We were very fortunate that it only lasted until 3am. We were able to sleep from then until 7am. And when she woke up, she was happy as could be. Her tummy is still not 100% (we are now battling diarrhea because we tried to feed her normal food too soon.)

We KNEW we were next. It was a weird feeling just waiting for it to happen. I thought we had about 24 hours before it would hit us. Aaron got it first- Thursday afternoon. He was better within 24 hours. I was feeling pretty hopeful by Friday that I had avoided it. I was a little nauseous but that's all. Then it hit me. It got worse and worse. I knew I was in for it. I didn't have it nearly as bad as others, or even Madeline. For that I am SO THANKFUL!

So, that's what we've been doing this weekend. Sitting in the house for four days recovering from this horrible flu.

I pray that you and your family remain healthy and DO NOT get this horrible flu!
Here are some pictures from our stay indoors.

My Favorite! This is how we wear our headbands in Cali!

oh no!! I don't want it! And i can't imagine more than one... and Claire was a handful (is?) as a baby- as in EVERY minute she demands attention/to be held and she NEVER sleeps for more than four hours... I can't do that with two!

And Madeline is so so so cute! We just flew through LA twice in the past week. We were closer than ever!!
