Are we done yet?

We have 6 more days of school! My 8th grader's grades were turned in Friday, and I made them work until 8th period Friday-f or fear of what would happen if we stopped. All they are doing now is graduation practice and watching movies in their afternoon classes. Yesterday the counselor talked to them about college and high school. They were so interested, several of them had their heads down and were sleeping! So today I decided to show a movie. I figure I only have them for 2 hours and 15more minutes so I will show a movie.

There was this one kid who decided to sleep during the movie. The bell rings to go home, and he is still sleeping. I finally turned the volume up on the movie really loud so he wakes up- because most of the kids are gone now. He finally does and kind of stumbles out of his seat wiping his face! I said, "Make sure you clean up the drool off the desk." His reaction was classic- he just looked at the desk like he was trying to figure out if there was actually any drool on the desk.

Hilarious!

Why is it?

Why is it that deodorant doesn't give you any warning when it is almost used up until one day, you go to put it on and it crumbles? Then you are scrambling to find the crumbles to use for the day because you just can't go without deodorant! Wouldn't it be nice if the deodorant gave us some warning like your hairspray container or makeup?

What a week!

This has been an amazing week! It started with finishing my first marathon and ended with my history day group getting first place at the State competition and making it to Nationals! I can't believe it! we left for State History Day on Thursday. The kids performed their 10 minute performance on Friday morning. We found out on Friday evening that we made it to finals. They performed on Saturday afternoon in Finals. We had to wait until this morning to find out the results! I've lost much sleep over the weekend thinking about the competition. It's pretty much consumed my life since October- well at least I've been working on it since then, I think it started consuming my life around February.

My students have worked so hard on their project. They have done an amazing amount of research and have put countless hours into this project! They really deserved to win! I knew we had a chance, and I thought we were in the top three picks- but only two go on to Nationals. It was tough to tell what the judges were thinking. You never know when you get to state what the judges are thinking. When they announced alternate and it wasn't us, I thought we had a good chance. Talk about an emotion-filled day! I was so excited when my group was finally called. This is my second year to coach. My group last year didn't make it past State Finals. It was a let down. I really questioned what we did wrong. This year- everything thing was just right. The topic is great, the group is wonderful- the parents are committed! It's been a great experience.

So, I am going to Washington DC this summer! I've never been before! So excited! I think Aaron will come with me- if he can! Now, we have much more work to do!
